DEKA is a modern, indoor functional fitness and hybrid racing competition created by Spartan. The name “DEKA” comes from the Greek word for “ten”, which stands for the 10 zones.

 

Designed for all skill levels, DEKA is a standardised test that can be trained for and repeated over time, unlike CrossFit competitions, which constantly switch up. 

 

It is designed for all fitness levels to test and improve endurance and strength through 10 standardised, functional zones - the decathlon of functional fitness.

10 Functional Zones: Every DEKA event consists of the same 10 zones (e.g., rowing, farmers carry, lunges, tank push/pull) designed to test overall fitness.

Accessible to All: DEKA is designed for everyone from beginners to elite athletes, emphasising that you don't need specialised training to participate. DEKA workouts are accessible for any fitness level - many exercises can be modified based on ability.

IMPROVE ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE

DEKA focuses on practical movements, like pushing, pulling, and carrying, improving real-world strength and endurance. 

​Many DEKA elements help build mental resilience, including physical endurance, time restraint and the ability to take on challenges. 

The standardised scoring system of DEKA allows you to track your progress and compare results. 

The structured nature of DEKA workouts makes them efficient, and they usually last between 20-45 minutes.

Immerse hold in house Official DEKA events throughout the year where you will earn an official medal and T Shirt.

These events are amazing bringing people together to challenge their abilities but Immerse themselves in a truly awesome event. On competition day you’ll be cheered on by spectators and you’ll test yourself against others competing to their best.

DEKA events and training foster a supportive environment where athletes push others to improve. 

Whether you want to compete or enjoy this style of training and see where it takes you the community is awesome and fully inclusive of all ages and abilities.

AID EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES AND MOVEMENTS

The improvements in strength, flexibility and mobility also contribute to everyday activities, enhancing movement efficiency and minimising injury risks.

Enhanced Cardiovascular Endurance: The competition, particularly DEKA FIT, combines functional zones with 500-meter running segments, significantly improving endurance.

Improved Functional Strength & Power: Exercises such as sandbag lunges, RAM burpees, and sled pushes target the core, legs, and upper body to improve daily movement

WHAT DOES A DEKA RACE FORMAT LOOK LIKE?

DEKA SERIES INCLUDES 3 MAIN EVENT FORMATS: (BUT ISNT LIMITED TO JUST THESE 3)

  • DEKA STRONG: 10 functional zones with no running. A strength only challenge with no running. 

  • DEKA MILE: 10 zones preceded by a 160-meter run (Total 1.6k). A shorter variation with reduced running distances.

  • DEKA FIT: 10 zones preceded by a 500-meter run (Total 5k). The full length challenge with runnig and fitness zones. 

DEKA is a fitness challenge designed for all fitness levels. It comprises 10 standardised functional zones, which form the core of DEKA events and aim to test everything from endurance to coordination. 

What is the DEKA FIT format?

  • 10 DEKA fitness zones (as outlined above).

  • 500 metres of running between each zone (totalling 5 km of running). 

What is the DEKA MILE format? 

  • 10 DEKA fitness zones (as outlined above). 

  • 160 metres running between each zone (totalling 1 mile – hence the name). 

What is the DEKA STRONG format?

  • All 10 DEKA fitness zones (as outlined above) are back-to-back with no running.
